The Kentucky Center for Mathematics provides high quality training and
sustained support to allow Mathematics Coaches to:
Grow Professionally
Mathematics coaches develop and refine their identity as both a
mediator of thinking and as a mathematics education leader.
Build Capacity
Mathematics coaches design professional learning opportunities for
teachers which employ dialogue that generates thinking and reflection
about mathematical content and pedagogy.
Create Community
Mathematics coaches work with groups of teachers and administrators
to build a professional learning community focused on the creation of a
shared vision for reaching student learning goals in mathematics.
Our Training Partners
Mathematics coaches work to create the culture of professional learning
and reflection on practice that are necessary for teachers to make the
school-wide improvements in mathematics instruction that result in
increased student achievement. The coach’s role is complex and
demanding, requiring knowledge and expertise in mathematics teaching,
interpersonal relationships, adult learning, and systemic change. The
coach’s role is also continuously evolving as coaches navigate change
within their school organizations and grow professionally in their
partnerships with teachers. We’ve joined with the quality training
programs below to prepare and support our coaches in this challenging
and rewarding work.
The Center
for Cognitive Coaching
will conduct an 8-day Foundation Seminar for our Freshman Mathematics
Coaches and a 2-day Proficiency Module for our Senior Mathematics
Coaches. Cognitive CoachingSM is the coaching model we have
adopted in Kentucky for our mathematics coaches.
The Center for
Adaptive Schools will
conduct a 4-day training for our Senior Mathematics Coaches. The
Adaptive Schools trainings builds upon group coaching skills providing
coaches with the necessary skills to help develop and support a
collaborative culture. |
